Waste to Energy Plant, Avonmouth, Bristol

This project involved us in undertaking both the hard and soft landscaping associated with a major new waste to energy plant at Avonmouth, Bristol. The scope of the works was very broad, utilising our civil engineering skills, and involving quite extensive earthworks as well as the more traditional planting and seeding works that you would more usually expect a typical landscape contractor to undertake.

Ferry Road Nature Reserve, Cardiff

This scheme for Cardiff County Council involved the formation of a linear nature reserve through a densely vegetated area of open space located along the edge of Ferry Road in Cardiff Bay. Footpaths were constructed and dressed with a stone dust surfacing. A small pond was formed using a bentonite liner covered with subsoil. Treated timber sleepers were installed. A bespoke steel access barrier was fabricated and installed and pennant sandstone piers were built within the roadside bund to form entrances into the nature reserve. Native trees, transplants and groundcover shrubs were planted and areas were seeded and turfed with wild flowers.

CAMHS Unit, Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend

This project involved us undertaking both the hard and the soft landscaping to the new Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service Unit. The project followed on from the first phase of works that we undertook for BAM which involved soft landscaping around a new multi-storey staff car park which was required to free up land for the new CAMHS unit.

The works commenced with the construction of two internal courtyards which were only accessible through the building before we then moved on to complete the surrounding areas. The works involved paving, hardwood timber walling, the installation of street furniture, rubber safety surfacing, topsoiling, planting and turfing.

Sainsbury's, Thornhill, Cardiff

As part of an expansion to the Sainsbury's Superstore at Thornhill in Cardiff, we were appointed to undertake all Section 278 highways improvements along with the soft landscape works within the superstore site boundary and the surrounds. In addition, we were also asked to produce an arboricultural report, to provide information for use in the future woodland management programme. All works had to take place whilst the existing store remained open to the public and whilst two way traffic was maintained along the highway.

Markham Colliery Entrance

This project was undertaken to enhance the entrance into the former Markham Colliery site.

Works included vegetation clearance, the demolition of an existing concrete structure and the taking down and removal of fences and gates. A circular feature faced with pennant stone walling and over 200 metres of freestanding stone walls were constructed. Large blockstone boulders were used to form retaining walls. Conservation kerbs were installed and existing macadam surfacing was planed off and replaced with new surfacing. In addition, stone dust surfacing and granite sett paving was laid. Timber seats were installed and trees and shrubs planted.

Coldra Roundabout, Newport - Gateway Scheme

These works took place on a major traffic island under the M4 motorway (Junction 24) known as the Coldra. The junction has recently undergone major reconfiguration works and it forms the north eastern gateway to the city of Newport. With the prestigious Ryder Cup due to be held at the Celtic Manor Hotel in Newport in September 2010, the city was keen to provide a landmark gateway scheme and this was achieved through the implementation of a landscape and innovative feature LED lighting scheme.

Multi-Story Car Park, Cardiff Bay

We were appointed to undertake the soft landscape works on a multi-story car park, built by Sir Robert McAlpine in the heart of Cardiff Bay. The works involved importing both subsoil and topsoil, planting trees and shrubs, mulching and seeding. Also included were works to existing planted areas and the provision of Urban Tree Soil to trees planted within a paved traffic island.

Office Refurbishment, Pascal Close, St Mellons.

This contract has included our design input particularly in respect of the choice of plants. The project involved feature planting and turfing works around a new office development together with the installation of timber decking as well as other features.

The Marl General Improvements, Cardiff

This contract involved both the refurbishment of existing macadam footpaths and the construction new footpaths together with the installation of new seating and litter bins. In addition two new all weather sports areas have been created and extensive planting works undertaken including over 100 No. trees to create avenue planting to the paths.

This contract required us to undertake environmental improvements to an area of waste ground situated adjacent a main road. The area was stripped of topsoil, re-graded, a car park, paths, steps and feature planters installed. Both native and ornamental planting works were undertaken, some with help from the local community.
